I'm RVing for two months and parking my 1998 BMW Z3 Roadster in my garage while gone. I don't want to bother my housemates with starting the car and the dealer said disconnecting the battery cables would be an OK option. I don't like the other options of buying a trickle charger or having to likely replace a dead battery on my return if I don't disconnect it.
Any downside to disconnecting the battery?
Is there anything else I should be aware of regarding this?
Thanks a bunch. Great Q&A site.

Re: disconnecting battery to store BMW Z3 for 2 months

Also, make sure if your radio has an anti-theft function that you still have the unlock code.
But two months is really no problem, the battery *shouldn't* go dead in that amount of time. -

Thu, February 28, 2008 - 8:58 PMA battery disconnect will reset your CPU..save your stereo codes!
I would also remove the battery. BMW tends to have batteries in the trunk, but I am not sure about the Roadster..some BMW body types have the battery under the seats. Anyhow, removing the cables prevents charge from draining out into the car, but there is still a chemical reaction going on inside the battery..just to be safe, keep it stored seaparately to avoid rupture, bulid up, heat, moisture etc.
